Phi Kappa Psi Return To Recess
We had our first successful philanthropy in over 2 years. The week long of events brought our Panhellenic chapters along with us to experience the Phi Psi motto, "The Great Joy of Serving Others." With the help of our sororities we were able to provide countless hours of service to our local Boys & Girls Club Chapter. We were able to raise money for their "Little Jumps, Big Changes" drive to help promote physical activity for today's youth. What a better way to help this cause by having a dodge-ball tournament and other activities for our sororities to participate in. Congratulations to Delta Gamma for winning the entire philanthropy and congratulations to Pi Beta Phi for winning the dodge-ball tournament. We could not be more thankful for all of the support we received in our philanthropy.
Welcome to the California Lambda chapter at San Diego State University!
The Phi Kappa Psi Fraternity at
Our mission statement:
To be a brotherhood that leads and conducts themselves as gentlemen, to strive for scholastic excellence, to play a positive role within our community, and to be socially active among other student organizations.
Our chapter today consists of 36 members whom all strive to excel academically, intellectually, and morally. To reinforce our focus of this ideal, we recently received an award in the spring of 2010 as the most improved GPA(3.042) and rank 2nd among the 11 fraternities on campus. We hold community service events bi weekly at the very least and aim to acquire 500+ community service hours per year. Cal Lambda is known on campus as being the most diverse fraternity that consists of individuals of different ethnicities and backgrounds. Simply put, the Greek community describes us as the “laid back group of gentlemen” who don’t discriminate and can keep a positive relationship with other organizations on campus. When we’re not studying, planning, or giving back to the community, we hold various brotherhood events to increase camaraderie. We also hold social events with different fraternities and sororities to increase our exposure on campus but we also house social events to have fun and unwind.
Most importantly, our recruitment period at the beginning of the fall semester is the most crucial time of the year for our chapter. The recruitment period is the time when potential new members “rush” the various fraternities on campus to determine which fraternity suits their background and principles. Our new member education consists of a rigorous education process that focuses primarily on academics, campus involvement, and leadership development. This is accomplished through a rigorous and effective education program that is taught by three of our own members within a semester period.
The local Phi Kappa Psi San Diego alumni association consists of over 500 members, many of whom reside within the San Diego County. Many of our local alumni gather for many different occasions throughout the year. Some of the events include golf tournaments, flag football games, an annual charity Vegas trip with Phi Psis from around the nation, and a Founder’s day annual dinner that is unique from what the other fraternity’s alumni association has to offer. Cal Lambda has produced alumni who have moved on to become leaders in the areas of finance, mortgages, venture start, politics, real estate, and beyond.
